John McNamara is a graduate of Chicago’s renowned St. Ignatius College Prep. He obtained his Bachelor’s Degree at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. He went on to attend Chicago-Kent College of Law. While in law school, John clerked for the Honorable Thomas R. Fitzgerald, who was Presiding Judge of the Criminal Division of Cook County and later became the Chief Justice of the Illinois Supreme Court.
John began his career as an Assistant State’s Attorney in the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, where he prosecuted criminal cases for over six (6) years. In that time, John prosecuted all types of felonies and misdemeanors in bench trials as well as numerous jury trials. As a prosecutor, John became well-versed in all areas of criminal law and became a seasoned litigator.
After leaving the State’s Attorney’s Office, John was a founding partner at McNamara & Austin, P.C. For over a decade, he has been handling criminal defense matters. All of the experience he gained as a prosecutor is now applied in defending his clients. John has gained a reputation as an aggressive advocate for his clients, who does not hesitate to take matters to trial rather than relying solely on the plea bargain. John’s practice has him appearing in court every day handling criminal and traffic matters at both the State and Federal levels. John regularly appears in Federal Court and State Court. John’s clients have come to trust and rely on his ability and advice.
